What is DNA Replication?
DNA replication is the process by which DNA makes a copy of itself during cell division.
Steps in DNA Replication
DNA unwinds and unzips by a helicase enzyme.
A primer (5’ to 3’) is made to start the synthesis of the daughter strand with the eznyme primase.
DNA polymerase starts attaching free nucleotides to the free 3’ end of the primer (complementary base pairing) to form the leading strand.
The lagging strand will form from the other DNA template and the Okazaki fragments will be joined by the DNA ligase.
The resulting 2 daughter DNAs will again form a helix structure (semi-conservative).
